Human capital economist with a specialism in applied AI (UBC, KCL, MIT). Adjunct faculty at Durham University Business School, where she lectures on AI across the MBA and leads the Applying AI in Practice executive education programme.

She guest lectures internationally and advises governments, regulators and corporates on AI adoption and governance, and contributes to the IEEE P7010.1 global standard on AI and human flourishing, helping define how we measure the value AI rollouts create economically, socially and for human wellbeing.

Mackenzie built her first platform in 2008, mallowstreet, bringing FTSE 100 pension fund decision-makers and capital markets online together for the first time, leading the build in a heavily FCA-regulated market while running the commercialisation that made mallowstreet the industry standard by 2010. A former Team GB international swimmer, Mackenzie has spent her career at the intersection of technology and business, driven by a single question: how do we nurture and release human potential more effectively, and what part can technology play in that.

Louise has spent thirty years working with businesses through change, from investment banking and the early technology boom to the energy transition and now AI. She built and sold a communications consultancy advising leading venture capital firms and Austrian listed companies, developing a knack for joining the dots, getting to the heart of complex issues and explaining them in plain English.

In her fifties, she co-founded Atheni with Mackenzie Howe. She came to AI as a user, asking the same questions clients ask: where is it useful, can I trust it, and what does it mean for my work? Those questions still shape her approach today, alongside two years of working directly with leaders and teams to develop Atheni’s methodology.

Louise brings curiosity, practical experience and a willingness to get stuck into the detail of how people work. She leads the Wise Five initiative on AI literacy and is co-author of Expiry Date: Never with Victoria Tomlinson, writing the AI chapters on why experience and judgement become more valuable as technology advances.
